It unites existing Bloomsbury history collections with new ones in a single accessible, cross-searchable platform.

Which collections will move to Bloomsbury History?

Will our access change? Will redirects be set up?

If your institution has purchased or subscribed to BCH, BHTM or any BMS collections, you will still have access to that content – the new home for these collections will just change.

In order to support customers who have bookmarked the current URLs, for example in library catalogue systems or in reading lists, as well as search engines and discovery and indexing databases, we will set up URL redirects for all pages.

This will mean that links to content pages (e.g. to articles, books, cases, museums and exhibitions) and also links to Research and Learning resources will redirect to the corresponding page on the new Bloomsbury History site.
Please note the redirects will live in our platforms indefinitely. DOIs will continue to point to the new platform too. This means that if you are using our MARC records (which include DOI URLs), you need not be concerned about the URLs. If you are using your own MARC records or are bookmarking pages using the OLD platform URLs, you are covered by the redirects.

However, we recommend you download the new set of MARC and KBART records. We will share these when they are available. The new records will be shared with discovery partners, but the timing of availability of the updated records following the migration may vary due to third party processes.

The new site will be subscription sensitive. This means that if users are accessing via the institution they will only see content they have access to in search results, and only those collections will appear on some pages.

We use discovery partners, will these be impacted?

If you receive MARC records via our Discovery partners – Ex Libris, OCLC and EBSCO – you will not be required to take any action. The changes will automatically filter through based on the Collections that have been activated in your Discovery management platform of choice.

How will our personal accounts be affected?

Users will still be able to log in to their personal accounts on Bloomsbury History.

However, we encourage users to save content in browser books marks as these may not be retained in the move. Saved searches will also not be retained as the results will be different on the new platform and may include results from multiple products.

Will there be any changes to usage statistics (COUNTER reports)?

Once BCH, BHTM and BMS move to Bloomsbury History, they will no longer have their own URL/domain for COUNTER purposes. They will be databases within Bloomsbury History on the COUNTER 5 Database reports instead.

All BCH, BHTM and BMS COUNTER usage will come via the Bloomsbury History COUNTER API key and any COUNTER 5 usage prior to the migration will be available under a separate BCH, BHTM or BMS site entry.

Will there be any changes to EZProxy?

Any Bloomsbury History customers using EZProxy will need to ensure that they have the Geoplugin stanza in their EZProxy config.txt. Existing customers should update their config.txt file with this information also.

We will share the EZProxy stanzas for Bloomsbury History when they are available.

Will institutions be able to renew their subscriptions to BCH, BHTM and BMS collections?

Yes, they will still be available to purchase via subscription or perpetual access basis once each collection has migrated to Bloomsbury History.
